The Nevada DMV VP-242 Trust Affidavit for Exemptions is an official form that allows qualifying individuals to claim veterans or other Governmental Services Tax exemptions when their vehicle is registered in the name of a trust. Under Nevada Revised Statutes 371.101 through 371.103, a person with "ownership interest" in a vehicle can obtain exemptions even when the vehicle registration shows the trust name rather than their individual name.
The affiant completing this form must be the same person named on the exemption certificate obtained from their county assessor. They declare under penalty of perjury that they have ownership interest as a direct participant in the trust. This enables the DMV to apply the exemption against Governmental Services Tax owed when registering or renewing the vehicle.
This form must be notarized by a Nevada notary public or authorized DMV representative. Pre-signed or improperly executed VP-242 forms will be rejected by Nevada DMV.
