How is vehicle registration or title transfer completed if the original title is missing when using VP-241?

When the original vehicle title cannot be located after the owner's death, the Nevada DMV accepts the properly executed VP-241 Affidavit for Transfer on Death Beneficiary as a substitute for the missing title document. The beneficiary submits the notarized VP-241 along with the certified death certificate and required supporting documents to initiate the title transfer process.

Once Nevada DMV approves the VP-241 submission, they will issue a new certificate of title in the beneficiary's name. The new title is typically mailed within 4 to 6 weeks of approval.
