The service uses the customer’s supplied current legal name, requested new name, reason for the change, residency information, criminal-history disclosures, and filing decisions. Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not decide whether the requested name should be approved or advise the customer about the legal consequences of changing a name.
Nevada’s adult name change process generally requires a petition filed in the district court where the petitioner resides. Clark County name change matters are maintained through the Family Division of the Eighth Judicial District Court.

4. Customer review and approval
The customer confirms all names, dates, addresses, residency statements, conviction disclosures, reasons, and requested court relief.
5. Filing and later-stage coordination
The approved documents are delivered for the confirmed filing stage. Publication coordination, proof of publication, later order submission, certified-copy retrieval, and additional government-record updates are separate unless expressly included.
Before You Start
Confirm That a Separate Court Order Is Needed
A separate adult name change case may not be necessary when a person can use an existing certified legal record, such as:
- A marriage certificate
- A divorce decree restoring a former name
- An adoption order
- A prior name change order
- Another court order that already authorizes the change
The customer should confirm what the receiving agencies require before opening a separate name change matter.
Lake Mead Mobile Notary cannot determine whether a court petition or another existing document is the legally preferable route.
Residency and Filing Court
Nevada law places an adult name change petition in the district court for the district where the petitioner resides. Clark County Family Court maintains change-of-name filings for the Eighth Judicial District Court.
Additional review is required when:
- The customer recently moved
- Nevada or Clark County residency is uncertain
- The customer uses more than one address
- The customer is temporarily located in Nevada
- Another state or country may have jurisdiction
- Another legal case already involves the requested name
- The customer is incarcerated, supervised, or subject to another court order
Felony Conviction and Fingerprint Requirements
Nevada adult name change forms require disclosure of felony convictions. The Nevada Supreme Court Self-Help Center states that a petitioner with a felony conviction must provide conviction details and submit fingerprints with the court documents.
A felony history may also affect whether a hearing or additional review is required. Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not evaluate criminal-history consequences or advise whether a court will grant the request.
Publication Requirements and Exceptions
Most Nevada adult name change requests require publication of the notice one time in a newspaper in the county where the case was filed. Proof of publication must then be provided to the court. The current Nevada court guidance states that publication is not required when the name change is requested to conform to the petitioner’s gender identity.
The court guidance also states that the judge cannot grant the standard published request until at least 10 days after publication. Most properly completed adult requests may be considered without a hearing, although the judge may require additional information or an appearance.
Publication, newspaper charges, proof-of-publication filing, and later order submission are separate unless expressly included in the confirmed service.
Safety, Privacy, and Sensitive Circumstances
Attorney or court review may be appropriate when:

The court’s filing fee varies by county and remains separate from Lake Mead Mobile Notary’s service charge.
Approval and Post-Order Updates
Document preparation and filing do not guarantee that the judge will approve the requested name.
After an order is signed and filed, the customer may need certified copies to update records maintained by agencies, financial institutions, licensing boards, employers, schools, courts, and other organizations. Each recipient controls its own evidence and update requirements.
